Personal Branding Shoot with Joslyn Thompson-Rule
Joslyn Thompson-Rule is a powerhouse in the fitness industry and wanted to refresh her personal branding for future marketing, PR and the launch of her second podcast
The Brief
Joslyn is a Peloton instructor, author, podcaster, former Nike Global Master Trainer and business mentor. She wanted fresh portraits that allowed her personality to shine through. It was important that she came across as the approachable, friendly and focussed business woman that she is.
Her second podcast Listen Loudly, was due to launch in January 2024 so we had to have images completed before the end of 2023, in time for the release of the first episode.
I first shot with Jos in 2017. She needed a cover image for her new e-book Chasing Pull-Ups, a cover shot for her debut podcast Fitness Unfiltered and portraits for her website, which were later used to promote her at London speaking engagement Women in Fitness Summit 2019. She told me this shot (below) was still one of her favourites and we couldn't wait to shoot together again.

The Shoot
Throughout the day we focused on 5 different looks including head shots and full length with a mixture of formal and casual styles so Joslyn would have a wide range of shots to chose from. In the morning I lit the set using a mixture of flash and natural light. We were lucky to have sun on a chilly day in late November, so had to be quick whilst a slither of sunshine beamed through the studio windows.
We had a great shoot day with lots of laughs and a super team. The next day I completed the first round of edits then sent contact sheets to Joslyn and her marketing manager so they could chose their final selects before commencing retouch and final delivery.
In terms of post-production, I kept it natural and simple, retouching only the odd stray hair or clothing wrinkles.
After another successful shoot together, Joslyn was once again a happy client with her images delivered on time and within budget.
A few weeks later, I was really happy to hear that Listen Loudly entered the top 1% of Health and Fitness podcasts globally and stayed there during the time it was being released.
